Multiple choice?

Multiple choice questions look like an easier way to solve a problem, but beware of two disadvantages:

  1. you are learning math so that you can use it in the real world. In the real world there aren't multiple choice solutions. You have to find the answer yourself, so concentrate on solving the math, and using the multiple choice answers to check your answer.

  2. they give the examiner an opportunity for head games! 2, or 3, or 4 answers that look plausible, and are designed to tempt you!

Sometimes you may find a problem that can only be solved by substituting answers. That's unfortunate but then you don't have a choice!
